Steve Lane + Justin Bernasconi (George Lane Matinee Sessions)

"If Wilco were Australian, they might sound like this" Josh Meadows Maine FM

An Afternoon with Steve Lane and Justin Bernasconi.

Award winning song smith Steve Lane’s first gig at George Lane is also his last Australian gig before heading to the UK.

It will be a stripped back family affair with son Kai on guitar and daughter Neneh on keys.

Steve’s latest album ‘The Great Imposter’ recently went top 10 on the UK Vinyl charts and has been getting valuable plays on BBC.

“On his fourth album, The Great Imposter, we hear Steve Lane at the peak of his songwriting powers, grappling with the world as he encounters it in ten warm, honest, heartfelt pop songs – richly imbued with the sound of indie rock, jangle pop, Americana and melodic rock.” Josh Meadows Maine FM

Recommended if you like early Wilco, The Go Betweens , Elvis Costello

"Floating on a bed of sweeping, weeping strings and a gentle patter of guitars and piano, ‘Don’t Forget To Breathe’ is breathtakingly elegant and mournful... Lane’s songwriting is measured and passionate at the same time, imbued with a longing and intelligence that gives its pop sensibilities a solid grounding and veracity."

At George Lane, Steve will be joined for a double bill by Justin Bernasconi

Justin Bernasconi uses his guitars to create art that’s filled with psychological tension, release and boundless creativity. He has formulated his own distinctly English style he calls folk impressionism that brings listeners in and allows them to form their own conclusions. With compositions like Lady In the FieldSleeping Like A Maniac and Dancing Elephants he pushes the boundaries of harmony and dissonance. His approach is informed by a diverse range of musical pioneers from Stravinsky, to Richard Thompson, John Fahey and Tallest Man On Earth. Such ideas and influences help him transcend cliché and produce truly fresh and original music.

“Like Leo Kottke and John Fahey on the instrumentals and John Prine on the songs’. fRoots UK

"His style oozes atmosphere." Guitar Techniques UK
