Waz e James and Andrew Pendlebury both lived in Richmond in the late ‘80s and often crossed paths while dog walking. They would chat and jam occasionally while each pursued individual careers. Waz would often head to Slaughtermen gigs as a fan while his own grunge band, Brokenhead, was establishing itself in the Australian music scene. In 2018, while walking his dog in St Kilda, Waz spotted Andrew, and a conversation about music ensued. Waz mentioned that he had a gig that night at the Lomond and Andy could join him if he wanted − which he did. This led to the formation of the WEJB feat. Andrew Pendlebury, with Steve Hadley and Scotty Martin.

Waz E James is often referred to as ‘Australia’s best kept secret’. He a veteran of the Australian roots blues and country scene, starting his musical journey as a teenager in the 70s, in the Melbourne folk scene. His country blues styled song writing style caught the ear of US producer John Beland, (Flying Buritto Brothers) which started a crossover to the Austin TX scene and top selling US Albums to follow. His band was a stalwart at festivals, including the Tamworth Music Festival playing legendary shows over a 20 year period.
